So what makes a place livable? Here's our criteria:

  • It's built at a human scale, that means people walking and biking get priority over cars. Serious points will be deducted for an abundance of the dreaded "Stroad".
  • Dedicated bike paths are the only thing considered bike infrastructure. Paint in the middle of a busy road is NOT a bike path.
  • School quality is crosschecked across multiple sources.
  • Availability of highly rated daycares.
  • Number of public amenities, parks, green spaces, concert venues, community events, farmers markets etc.
  • The website Walkscore, while well intentioned, is completely meaningless, our walk score is based more in reality. Just because there's a side walk, it doesn't mean it's actually a walkable place.
  • The efficiency of the town and willingness to upzone quickly.
